Analysis & Design
The Analysis & Design phase of every Avaloq Banking System implementation starts by identifying and documenting current and target processes. Once we have a formal understanding of how the business works, we can focus our efforts on identifying and quantifying the tasks necessary to change the initial Avaloq Banking System set-up.
This phase can be described as the sum of three parts:
- Documenting current business processes
- Model Bank analysis – Gathering business requirements
- Documenting target processes – Solution design
Documenting Current Business Processes
In order to complete the implementation analysis, the project team must first ascertain the state of existing processes, IT solutions, etc. The first steps therefore consist of gathering and structuring this information.
By documenting existing processes, we establish a number of essential foundations for implementation:
- Identify key volume business processes
- Formally record business rules that must be migrated to the Avaloq Banking System
- Reduce the risk of key functionality or processes being missed
The project scoping documentation produced during the Project Set-up phase provides a good starting point for this analysis, as it identifies what needs to be done in each area.
During this phase, the following documents are prepared:
- Use cases: these are documents that describe the operations as they are performed on the current system. They help to formalise current business processes and make sure that all parties share a common understanding of how the client’s business functions with the existing system
- Business specifications: these are documents that capture business requirements that can not be described appropriately by use cases. Typical examples include specifications for finance (charts of accounts, tariff structure, ..), for interfaces with third party systems, internal reports, client outputs etc.
Model Bank Analysis – Gathering Business Requirements
To prepare the implementation phase, it is necessary to define how the target processes can be achieved in the Avaloq Banking System.
A useful starting point is the Avaloq Model Bank (MDB). The MDB is a default parameterisation provided by Avaloq that includes the functionalities of a typical bank. The MDB therefore acts as an ideal starting point for Avaloq implementation projects.
The key activities of this phase consist of a series of workshops across each of the different modules of the Avaloq Banking System. Orbium guides key business users and project team members through each phase using the following steps:
- Demonstration of what is available in the Avaloq Model Bank
- Analysis of Avaloq Model Bank processes and whether they will be sufficient to meet the client’s needs. Do they fully cover the operations described in the target process analysis?
- Identification of target processes that can be simplified in order to adapt to the Avaloq Model Bank
- Definition of desired processes for the client’s Avaloq Banking System implementation.
Documenting Target Processes – Solution Design
The two stages described above form the inputs and workings of the Analysis and Design phase.
As for the output, it is agreed upon following the workshops and consists of the final processes and functionalities needed to successfully define the client’s Avaloq Banking System implementation. At this stage, the solution design can be finalised and it details how the different requirements will be answered in the Avaloq Banking System.
At the end of the Analysis & Design phase, the initial function scope is frozen. During the subsequent phases, the project scoping may be refined. Such updates must, of course, follow the agreed procedures for change as defined during the Project Set-up phase.
To facilitate the planning of the next phase, Implementation, we then define a detailed work plan of how each solution will be implemented.
Avaloq Model Bank
The Avaloq Model Bank is an all-in-one solution, sufficiently varied and flexible to be adapted to highly diverse business models and market segments, thus offering an outstanding launch pad for your implementation project.
